We at LanzaroteTourist.com would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.

We hope santa has been kind to everyone.

In the news there was a report about two children who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Greece.  The news has made a lot of people question the safty standards abroad and of course in Lanzarote.

We can assure you that most (99%) of water heaters are actually electric in Lanzarote and not gas so there is no chance of anyone suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Lanzarote at christmas time is vast becoming the most popular time of your for tourist to visit the Island.  With Lanzarote being around 4 hours flying away from the Uk and Ireland it’s the closest place you can travel where you are just about certian to have nice weather.

If you are stopping in Puerto Del Carmen you will be please to know there are some events over the christmas period that you can go to (for free)

25th December you will find in The old town harbour of Puerto del Carmen, church marina choir.

30th December, Puerto del Carmen beach avenue concert by Tias Municipal band.

31st December, along the strip (main beach in Puerto del Carmen) you will find alot going on, from live music to fireworks at 2am in the morning.

4th January, Old town harbour in Puerto del Carmen is another concert by El Pavon and folklore school.

5th January (Spanish christmas) is the 3 kings procession along the main strip ending up in the old town harbour (along the strip around 9pm).

If you are visiting Lanzarote at christmas be sure to try and find out what is happening in your area.  Again the above is just for Puerto del Carmen.

When visiting Lanzarote for the first time people often ask the question of which attractions and excursions are the best ones.

Attractions

There are two attractions that when visiting Lanzarote are a must:

Timanfaya National Park - This attraction is what made the lanscape in Lanzarote, it is the best known feature of Lanzarote and the most talked about.  The trip to the top of the volcaneo not only offers stunning views but is also interesting as you get to find out about the power a volcaneo actually has.

Cesar Manrique Foundation - With out this man, Lanzarote would be full of high rise buildings, odd coloured houses and no doubt bright neon flashing lights.  The most famous man in Lanzarote is responsible for keeping Lanzarote the way it is.  His house which you can visit was built in to a lava field using the natual bubble formations to make rooms, this will be one of the unique houses you will ever visit.

Excursions

Submarine Safaris - This excursions gives you the change to go deep (and to the bottom) of the ocean.  The submarine is one of around 10 custom built for tourists.  You may never get a chance to do this again so it is worth the money.  You are taken below the surface and visit ship wrecks and try to find the friendly and very large sting ray.

Sea Master Canarias - A new excursion to the island but something that is worth doing.  You are taken out on a very expensive boat with your own skipper and deck hand/waitress to hunt for dolphins, see Lanzarote from a totally different perspective or to just simply releax and take life easy.

Lanzarote is now home to the only official RYA Motor Yacht training centre in the Canary islands.  Sea Master Training Centre centre principal Duncan Boycott was given the approval of the RYA on the 15th November after months of paper work and many inspections.

The training centre which is now based in the popular Marina Rubicon is not only offering  training courses for British Citizens or Residents who are interested in learing how to sail/drive a boat also offers Luxery Day and Weekly Charters.

They are many different course you can choose from all of which (if you pass) will get you an official certificate from the RYA.

If you would like further information on the courses available or interested in going on a day charter trip then visit Duncan’s web site, Sea Master Training Centre Lanzarote

Our sister site Puerto del Carmen reviews is now back on line after a couple of days down time.  We have been working hard on improving the site.  Much of the work is in the back ground but the most obvious change to the public is the colours.

Now this change has been made we are going to concentrate on getting more pictures of the bars and restaurants before the hotels and apartments.

If you have been to Puerto Del Carmen before why not check out the reviews in the Puerto del Carmen bars section or add your own.

Yesterday Lanzarote was placed on orange alert after another tropical storm was heading towards the Island.

The storm which ended up hitting Tenerife has caused a vast amount of damage.

Last year at this time Lanzarote was hit by tropical storm delta which caused a lot of damage throughout the Island.

Should we expect the same weather next year?  Keep up to date with the current weather by visiting the Lanzarote Weather page.

Nexus Airways have confirmed they will not make the Christmas flights to Lanzarote.

Unfortunately finalising our last investors is taking longer than we anticipated, with this weeks media focus on possible “green tax” for aviation this will no doubt cause us more problems in securing the finance we need over the next few weeks, therefore it looks like our Christmas flights will not operate as we had hoped, we are considering looking for final investment from the Islands themselves, in hope we’ll have more success than we are currently getting from the UK.

Lanzarote is in need of some cheaper flights so we are hoping that Nexus Airways will find some companies/people to back this venture.  In the meet time Nexus will hopefully still begin flying in May as stated above.
