Over the past month we have been asked more than once about the road works taking place in Puerto del Carmen.

The road works which started around 2 months ago are effecting the main road in Puerto del Carmen from Playa Pocillos past the San Antonio Hotel.  At the moment you can still drive to the San Antonio Hotel but you do have to use some smaller back roads to get there.

The roads which are being dug up at the moment are apart of some larger changes in Puerto del Carmen.  The plans for the future is to make the ’strip’ a one way road cutting down the number of cars and making the walk way larger so that there is a cycle lane and a larger foot path.

Just behind Puerto del Carmen there is also a new road in the process of being built, this new road will be for the lane along the strip that gets closed down.  This at the moment is not effecting traffic but may do in the near future.

While searching around various web sites about the weather in Lanzarote you notice that the weather always seems the same as the other Canary Islands when the truth is weather around the Canary Islands is different (sometimes by a lot) on each island.

The past few days Lanzarote has been having a mini heat wave which is pushing the temperature way above 35 degrees yet all the web sites offing ‘Lanzarote Weather and Weather Forecasts’ will be showing 35 degrees and under (Yes this includes Lanzarote Tourist Reviews).

So why is this?  Well like anywhere Lanzarote does have different temperatures depending on where in the Island you are, for example when you start heading inland you will start climbing up hence it’s normally colder inland than the likes of Puerto del Carmen which is found on the cost.

So when you are searching around for the weather in Lanzarote do remember that all sites can only really offer a guide to the temperatures around Lanzarote, as a rule of thumb we would suggest that you look at the Lanzarote Weather and always add a few degrees to what is being displayed.

Ironman 2007 this year was a success like most.  The mens winner Eneko Llanos Burguera who came in at an impressive time of 8:49:38 was the first ever Spaniard to win the Ironman in Lanzarote.

ironmanwinner.jpg

The first female home was Tiina Boman from Finland who completed the course in 9:58:41

It was also a plesent suprise that everyone who managed to finish this years Ironman finish before the 12 o’clock deadline.

The day in Puerto del Carmen was not without some accidents however.  Each year as the Ironman becomes more popular bring new danger.  The roads in Puerto del Carmen are closed off to car and busses, however they are not closed off to the public who seem to wonder accross the road without a care in the world.

Coming to the closing stage of his bike ride, one competitor who was riding towards the end of stage 2 ended up hitting a person crossing the road.  Naturally the competitor was not happy and this is understandable.  Hopefully next year may bring in some tighter control of people crossing the road.

For a long time now Lanzarote (Puerto Calero) has been home to Catlanza which has been offering catamaran trips on a daily basis with just about no competition, until now.

Papagayo Adventure is a new company which is now offering catamaran trips that will leave from the harbour in Puerto del Carmen.  The trip which began this week is now up and running and already taking customers out on the open sea.

So whats the advantage of this trip?

Papagayo Adventure:

  • 54 euros per person (27 euro for a child)
  • Bus transfers
  • Jet ski ride
  • Banana boat ride
  • Canoeing across to papagayo beach

Comparing what this new excursions offers to the catlanza excursions, not only is it cheap but it also offers a lot more.

We shall be updating our excursions in lanzarote page with all this information (when we can get some nice pictures) so be sure to keep an eye out.

Over the past year Lanzarote Tourist and Puerto del Carmen Reviews have gone from strength to strength.  We have been promoting theses sites when ever possible and continue to update them with fresh and up to date information on a regular basis.

Our sister site has now begun offering Puerto del Carmen apartments which allows you to book an apartment online direct with the owners.  This new section is now up and running with 6 apartments to rent.  Over the coming months this will hopefully increase.

Because of this, Lanzarote Tourist has now begun to offer the same but on a much larger scale.  Lanzarote Tourist is in the process of setting up Lanzarote Apartments to rent.  This will hopefully offer our readers and visitors to the site a chance to book apartments from all over Lanzarote, again booking these direct with the owners and thus cutting out the middle man.

If you would like to be informed of new apartments being added then be sure to sign up for our Lanzarote news letter.
