Lanzarote celebrates it’s 40th year in tourism on October 12th.

The first official tourist stayed in the Fariones Hotel in 1966 buts it is unclear who this person was or where they were from.

To celebrate the 40th birthday there are a number of events being held in Lanzarote from displaying bills and guest books from 1966 to giving away 40 free holidays to Lanzarote.

You may also get a surprise when collecting your luggage at the airport as there is talk of cups/mugs and t-shirts being given away when you land at the airport.

As we know, Easy Jet will not fly to Lanzarote direct from the UK because of the amount of fuel the planes carry, although this is still true Easy Jet may still fly to Lanzarote but from Madrid.

Easy Jet is inline to be given these domestic flights from October, they will offer flights not only to Lanzarote but to North Tenerife, Bilbao and Asturias.

What does this mean for UK passangers? Well in theory you should be able to fly into Madrid with Easy Jet (cheap) then from Madrid to Lanzarote (hopefully cheap).  Although this does sound longer flying time will still be around 4 hours with a delay in the middle as you change flights.

Although not a ideal situation this will hopefully allow some passangers a cheap holiday to Lanzarote which the Island currently lacks.
