Welcome to Lanzarote Tourist

Teguise Market

Teguise is the old capital of Lanzarote and is not to be confused with Costa Teguise the tourist resorts on the coast. Teguise is inland and Monday to Saturday it is a sleep village but on a Sunday it really comes to life.

The market stalls appear all through the cobbled streets and main square and hundreds of people poor into the village from all over the island. There are a few options to the tourists of how to get to the market.

An organised trip can be arranged with a coach picking you up and bringing you back.

Taking a hire car is simple with lots of parking around Teguise costing about €1.50 for the morning.

There are also public buses which run up to the market but these are very busy so it's quite possible you may have to stand all through the journey.

A taxi is not advisable from Puerto Del Carmen or Playa Blanca as it's a long journey so will be quite costly.

The market starts at around 9am and runs until 2pm and sells all manner of products from table cloths to trainers, hair brading to handbags, pictures to pottery, the list is very long. On some stalls it is possible to haggle so bear this in mind when browsing.

You will also find all manner of food and drink being sold. You can get anything from and english breakfast to tapas, there is also stalls selling freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly made donuts. There are also many bars in the cobbles streets of Teguise for those who have had enough of shopping and want to sit and watch the world go by.

The main square usually has a band playing panpipes and there are sometimes displays of canarian dancing and music.

The market is a lovely morning out and a great place to get your holiday gifts at the best value. Just a small warning though: it is colder in winter at Teguise that the other tourists resorts so be sure to take a jumper.
