Wine Trail
The volcanic eruptions that occurred between 1730 and 1736 covered a third of Lanzarote in lava and ruined the best agricultural areas. However the wine growers of Lanzarote have utilized the landscape. They have found that the black sand along with the volcanic stone half circle walls preserve the earth's humidity whilst protecting the vines from the sun and wind.
The "Malvasia" prevails amongst the Lanzarote wines, a small, high quality grape which has perferctly adapted to its environment and conveys its taste and aroma to the wine. Other varieties of Lanzarote wine include: Moscatel, Black and White Listán, Diego, White Burra and Negramoll.
Wine cellars on the island are in fairly close proximity to one another. However to fully enjoy the wine trail the Lanzarote tourist board recommends two particular routes. Both of these trails begin at Monumento al Campesino, the monument to the farmer by artist Cesar Manrique.
Below are two wine trails you can choose from, click on the different trails for further information.
